Kansas City police may be controlled by city officials, not state ones, in the future.

A proposed statewide petition has been filed to eventually give Kansas City control over the 2,000-member Police Department, now run by a governor-appointed board.

This should lead to a positive outcome for taxpayers, city officials and the police — if all the steps are done correctly.
