Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach said it last week about Donald Trump’s beleaguered immigration travel ban:
“… as someone who litigates in the field of immigration law, I guarantee, and I will bet whatever amount of money you want, that when the appeals are done, the travel ban that is currently being litigated will be upheld in court. I guarantee it.”
Fine, I wrote a few days later. How about putting up $100 to back up your big mouth, Kris?
He failed to answer, so this week I’m upping the proposed wager to $200.
That’s the new “bet whatever amount of money you want” amount.
Pretty much same rules as before: I pledge to contribute $200 to the nonprofit of Kobach’s choice if the court ruling after all appeals are done upholds one of Trump’s executive orders on immigration travel.
If Kobach accepts the bet but the travel ban eventually loses in court, his $200 contribution would be split between the nonprofits of my choice, Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union.
On social media, several people have said they would make similar bets with Kobach. It’s up to the secretary of state to decide what he wants to do with those.
I just want to see Kobach man up and agree to take a legitimate wager on this issue, as he pledged to do last week.
